Course content

the course will be run either in four 2.5 hour sessions or over 2 days, commencing anytime after 20th week of pregnancy. Attending the course weekly gives a couple the benefit of practising the techniques taught over a period and ability to ask questions following regular practise during the week at home. If the mother is after 35 weeks of pregnancy an accelerated programme can be offered.

The sessions cover: 

  • Learning how to enter a deep state of relaxation, resulting in the body
    producing natural pain relief hormones (endorphins) and reducing the
    likelihood of any medication
  • Learning to trust that a mother's body is designed and has a natural ability
    to give birth in a pain-free manner
  • Visualisation techniques
  • Optimal birthing positions
  • Massage techniques that stimulate endorphin production
  • How to release any fear surrounding birth that can result in stress and muscle tension, causing pain
  • Nutrition and exercise for a healthy pregnancy
  • The importance of the birthing companion during labour
